Test Only Smog Check

The California DMV sends some vehicles to special Smog Check Stations
called "Test Only" Stations. The actual inspection is the same as is conducted
at a "Regular Smog Station" the main difference between the two types of
stations being that the "Test Only" Station is not permitted by law to make
repairs to the emission system of a failing vehicle other than to replace a
failing gas cap and to re-attach vacumn hoses which have become loose
during normal operation of the vehicle.

The idea was to separate the testing aspect from the repair side of the industry
in order to promote fairness. The activities of both types of stations are
monitored by the California Department of Consumer Affairs.

California offers a repair assistance program to vehicles directed to "Test Only"
Centers called the CAP Program. This provides up to $500 to fix the emission
control failure while the consumer generally pays between $20-100 co-payment
for diagnosis and repair.

The station listed below has referred over 1200 consumers to obtain the $500 in free repairs mentioned above and happily assists consumers to get this help.
